Campus Management Status Report ~ 10-25-2002
Overview
-
The
October 2002 CM Newsletter is ready and should reach
campus mailboxes by Monday. Thanks to M.K. Smith for her work
on this.
- We had a very productive week with Bodo von Glahn (October 14-18).
This was facilitated
by the excellent preparation on the part of the three admissions
teams led by Eftink, Ridgeway and Oliphant.
For more detail, see the Student Administration
team notes.
- Diego Rincon was also here and provided help with
data migration, grading, solutions for customer data
and event planning.
- We will begin a comprehensive
review of all program and course information the
in mid-November. Dr. Vaughan is coordinating
this effort. We are happy to report that we now
have information for *** all *** programs of study.
- We are working on the detailed authorizations
spreadsheet. In this activity, we are trying to map
current and new user roles to specicifc CM transactions and data.
The Basis team is investigating technical options
for handling structural authorizations.
As part of this activity, we will need to look
at the process for requesting accounts and access to certain
kinds of data, especially student, to make sure that
appropriate sign-offs are in place.
- We are requesting feedback from the campus on the
Advising Proposal --
see
www.olemiss.edu/projects/first/cm/recommendations/advising.pdf.
The feedback to this proposal is bringng to light
some interesting authorization issues.
-
The Recruiting Proposal has been revised
based on feedback from Bodo's visit.
See
www.olemiss.edu/projects/first/cm/recommendations/recruiting.pdf.
A concern is the timing of the cut-over. We will need to make sure that
Admissions officers have continuous or near-continuous access to required
recruiting functionality.
- There will be a conference call/presentation
with CM development and CMU on the degree audit design on 10/29 at 10 am in PBJ.
See individual team reports
(Academic Structure,
Student Administration,
Student Accounting,
Reporting,
Web / Interfaces,
Organizational Readiness,
Technology Infrastructure)
for additional detail.

- Only one degree program form remains to be turned in. Rick and Jim are entering the submitted programs of study information into the CM database.
- Onice, Denise, and Benita are still entering approved Undergraduate/Graduate Council minute course changes.
- Several changes have been suggested for the course eforms page. Veena has been working on a final version of the course eforms set.
- Kathy, Rick, and Jim are working on a solution for one way and two co-requisites in CM. Jim will identify those courses presently listed as co-requisites as either one way or two way.

Student Accounting Team Status Report as of October 25, 2002
- Fees
We reconfigured due dates for fee calcualtion. The next step is to conduct thorough testing to insure that the changes are valid.
- Interfaces
We received enhanced functionality from Germany concerning the financial aid interface. We found some new problems during our testing and we have reported the new problems to Germany.
- Invoicing
Work is ongoing in this area, but progress to date has been slow. Maria is meeting with Bursar personnel to get a better feel for the user requirements.
- Cash Desk/Cash Journal
We are configuring this process, and we are testing each phase of the product. We will conduct an evaluation of the software and report on the deficiencies of SAP vs our current software, CORE.
- Payment Card Phase 1
We are working on completing this phase of the project. We have experienced problems when a credit is required on a credit card payment. Buster is working on this problem.

Web / Interfaces
- Accomplishments/Activities
- Had a great week with Bodo to look at technical options for
implementing the admissions workflow.
This was a joint Ferguson/McCready/Stribling effort.
- Starting to look more closely at grading RFCs (tools
for viewing and creating grades from a web interface).
- Aitala met with the Orientation team to work
on the design of the web form.
- Ferguson and Mantena continue to work on the
new course schedule and booking process.
- Met with Basis team to discuss whether to
explore implementing logon tickets. Decided to take a couple
of weeks to investigate and will then decide.
- First day of priority registration minus RSVP went
well. Mantena developed a web interface for looking
up advisor information.
- Trying to develop a generalized RFC display engine servlet
that will allow us to deploy new web applications that are
selects-only very quickly.
- Developing a way to create dynamic menus based on
what kind of user this is. For example, the advising proposal
sugegsts that advisors use a web interface for viewing advisee
information. We want a flexible and dynamic way to generate the
appropriate user menu based on his her LDAP atributes.
