Ewing Scholarship benefits students, honors classmate

Nearly 10 years after Amie Ewing was killed in a tragic accident, a scholarship in her memory is providing $1,000 per year to pharmacy students exhibiting traits she exemplified while in pharmacy school at Ole Miss. The fully endowed scholarship was mostly funded by pharmacy license plate sales, a feat spearheaded by Beau Cox (PharmD 05).

Students tout pharmacy profession at the Capitol

A record-breaking number of students attend Pharmacist Day at the Capitol.

More than 60 pharmacy students participated in "Pharmacist Day at the Capitol" in Jackson to help raise awareness of their chosen profession. The Jan. 30 event enabled them to meet with Mississippi legislators, provide health screenings and flu shots, and see the Capitol building. They also were recognized in the House of Representatives.

Second-year professional student advances to national competition

Kayla Snow is advancing to the 2014 national patient counseling competition at the American Pharmacists Association’s annual meeting in Orlando, Fla. Snow, who is in the second professional year of pharmacy school at Ole Miss, is using the skills lab in which she is enrolled to help prepare for the March competition.

Students lead effort to create Kappa Epsilon alumni chapter

Student members of the Alpha Gamma chapter of Kappa Epsilon at Ole Miss are working to create an alumni chapter of the professional pharmacy fraternity. The new chapter will provide alumni with an opportunity to reconnect with former classmates, mentor KE members and help support breast cancer awareness through the fraternity’s community service projects.

Planned gift honors alumnus

Nashville native Gladys Garrett recently donated a planned gift of $100,000 to the UM School of Pharmacy to honor her late husband, Marvin “Lynn” Garrett (BSPh 49). Half of Garrett’s gift will support Faser Hall renovations, while the other half will establish a scholarship bearing the Garrett name.
