Partners land technology transfer prize

Pterostilbene is found in blueberries, grapes and other
small fruits.

Work to bring pterostilbene to market received a national award for excellence in technology transfer. The award was presented to the university’s Division of Technology Management, the USDA Agricultural Research Service’s Natural Products Utilization Research Unit and ChromaDex Corp. by the Federal Laboratory Consortium in April.

Two Doctor of Pharmacy students, Geremy Carpenter of Jackson and Michael “Andy” Kennedy of Quitman, were inducted into the School of Pharmacy Hall of Fame during spring commencement ceremonies. Both were selected by their classmates for their scholastic and professional contributions to the school.

This spring, pharmacy students selected four faculty members to honor for teaching excellence. They chose Soumyajit Majumdar, Erin Holmes and Richard “Buddy” Ogletree to receive Teacher of the Year awards, and selected Debbie Minor and Ogletree to receive Preceptor of the Year honors.

Scholarship supports pharmaceutical marketing students

For more than a decade, the Terence E. Downer Scholarship has supported School of Pharmacy students pursuing careers in pharmaceutical marketing. The fund honoring the late Johnson & Johnson executive was established with the help of his friends and colleagues when he retired from the company.

UM's chief research officer champions competitiveness

Before becoming UM’s chief research officer, Alice Clark spent 22 years working in the School of Pharmacy, where she helped establish one of the longest continually funded antifungal research programs in the history of the National Institutes of Health. As CRO, she is credited with expanding UM’s research infrastructure, research competitiveness and reputation as a player in addressing issues confronting our state, nation and world.
