Supporting a national campaign, Oxford Mayor George “Pat” Patterson read a proclamation at a recent Board of Aldermen meeting that named October as American Pharmacists Month. Patterson worked with Dean David D. Allen and student representatives to raise awareness and promote the profession of pharmacy. The proclamation states that pharmacists are an “integral part of the health care team.”

Donna West-Strum, chair and professor of the Department of Pharmacy Administration, was recently honored with the Duncan Neuhauser Award by the Academy for Healthcare Improvement. West-Strum and several colleagues were honored for their work in creating the Educating Pharmacists in Quality program, a tool that aims to support teaching of measurement, reporting and improvement of pharmacy practice.

Pharmacy alumnus Francis Cerniglia, who graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy in 1959, has remained a loyal friend to the school ever since. For the past three decades, Cerniglia has given to the School of Pharmacy every year. He hopes to continue supporting students as they transition to pharmacists.

Graduate students Sujith Ramachandran, Nilesh Gangan and Kaustuv Bhattacharya, as well as recent Ph.D. graduate Zainab Shahpurwala, won the top prize in the Pharmaceutical Marketing Research Group's inaugural case study competition in July. Winning the competition allowed them to present a poster to pharmaceutical marketing experts at the PMRG Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Oct. 5.
