Research Interest

Advanced composite materials and mechanics, grid-stiffened composite structures, dynamic and impact properties of composites, adhesive bonding, structural foams, non-destructive evaluation.

Dr. Mantena has been working in the area of advanced composite materials and mechanics for the past twenty years, with funding from NSF, EPRI, NASA, AOC, USDA, Allied Signal and Dow Automotive. He has over seventy five scholarly articles published in journals and presented at national and international meetings. Dr. Mantena is actively involved with the American Society for Composites and American Society of Mechanical Engineers, having organized several international conferences and served as Chair of the Materials Characterization Technical Committee of ASME. He has recently been elected Chair of the Fastening and Joining Technical Committee of ASME - Design Engineering Division. Dr. Mantena’s research interests are on impact, blast, and dynamic mechanical characterization of nano structured composites; structural foams with hybrid or cement/polymer based composites for energy absorption; vibrations and experimental modal analysis.
