·
The Poromechanics
Committee was established on October 1, 2003. Currently there are 27 committee
members. (Member list distributed)
·
In the EM2003
conference, there were a total of 9 poromechanics sessions organized. 3
sessions were co-organized with the Properties of Materials Committee and 3
sessions were co-organized with the Inelastic Behavior Committee. (See Annual
Report)
·
Journal of Engineering
Mechanics submissions: 4 manuscripts were received during the last 9 months.
(See Annual Report)
·
A special issue is being
organized for the Journal of Engineering Mechanics. (See Annual Report)
2. Biot
Conference (Abousleiman)
The third Biot Conference on
Poromechanics will be held in May 24-27, 2005, at the University of Oklahoma,
Norman, Oklahoma, USA. Sponsorship of ASCE EMD, as well as a few other
organizations, has been obtained. The Poromechanics Committee is expected to
assist in the organization of the conference. Part of the profit generated by
the conference can be donated to the Poromechanics Committee or the Biot Medal
endowment.
3. Organization
of Poromechanics Sessions, EM 2004, Delaware
After some discussion, members
volunteered to organize the following session in the 2004 conference:
·
Wave propagation, 2
sessions, Berryman
·
Nanoporomechanics, 2
sessions, Ulm & Abousleiman
·
Electroseismicity, 1 session, Pride
·
Biologically inspired
porous materials, 3 sessions, Hellmich & Katti
·
Computational
poromechanics, 1 session, Muraleetharan
·
Industrial applications,
1 session, Abousleiman
·
Thermoporomechanics, 1
session, Coussy
It was generally agreed that
there should not be too many sessions organized by the committee so as not to
be forced into parallel session tracks to conflict with each other.
4. Biot Medal
Nomination
The committee went into a
debate concerning whether the committee should take an active role in making
nomination to the Award Committee of the Biot Medal. It was finally decided
that the committee itself would not play a role. However, members are free to
form any combination to nominate their candidates. The Chair should do his best
to propagate the nomination information to the poromechanics community.
