Conference/Workshop Location
Essaouira is a tourist town 140-km west of Marrakech, by the Atlantic Ocean.  There exist airline connections from Casablanca.  The conference will be held in Hotel Ryad Mogador, a four-star tourist hotel with modern conference facilities.

Conference Excursion
The conference will sponsor a half-day sightseeing tour for all participants, to take place in the afternoon of the second day of conference.

Post-Conference Field Trip
A post-conference one-day field trip is being considered. This will take place on April 26, 2001, the day after the conference. Possible activities: water resources related field trip. Projected cost: US$80, inclusive of transportation and lunch.

Spouse Program
Day trips can be arranged with travel agencies. Information about program and travel agencies will be posted soon.

Post-Conference Sightseeing Tours
Post-conference sightseeing tours will be organized by travel agencies. Conference participants can join at their own expenses. More information will be provided.

Conference Travel Advise:

Mode 1: Fly directly to Essaouira. You need to first fly to Casablanca. Casablanca is served by many major airlines. There are direct flights from New York, Paris, London, Frankfurt, etc. There are some connection flights (1 hour fly time) from Casablanca to Essaouira, though not many. Contact Royal Air Moroc for schedule. After arriving at Essaouira airport, call a taxi to hotel.

Mode 2: Fly to Marrakech. Marrakech is also served by major airlines. The best connection is through Paris. There are many direct flights served by Air France and Royal Air Moroc. The conference will arrange bus pick up at Marrakech Airport. The distance between Marrakech and Essaouira is about 150 km or 95 miles, or about 2-hour driving time. On April 21 and 22 (Saturday and Sunday) there will be three buses per day leaving from Marrakech Airport to the hotel in Essaouira. The departure time is tentatively scheduled as:

Please arrange your flight accordingly. The bus will be parked in front of the airport with SWICA sign posted. The conference will also arrange helpers in the airport with signs. If you missed the bus or do not wish to wait, the two cities are also served by direct bus leaving from airport. More information about this bus will be posted.  For returning trip, one conference bus will run from Essaouira to Marrakech Airport during the last day of conference, on April 25
6 pm
This bus is intended for people needing to catch an early flight from Marrakech the next day, April 26. In this case, you should book your last night accommodation in Marrakech. On April 26, bus will run on
7am
12 noon
from Essaouira to Marrakech.  For those wishing to depart at different times, again direct buses exist between the two cities. Arrangement can be made during the conference.

Workshop Travel Advise:
