Our StaffLarry D. Ridgeway, Ed.D
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs I was appointed vice chancellor for student affairs in December 2007, after serving a short term as interim vice chancellor. Previously I had served as associate vice chancellor for six years and as director of financial aid from 1996 to 2001. I came to Ole Miss from Auburn University, where I had been assistant vice president for student affairs for five years after a 12-year tenure as director of student financial aid. My career in higher education began at the University of South Alabama as assistant director and later director of financial aid. I earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education and a master’s degree in counselor education from the University of South Alabama. In 2001, I received the Doctor of Education in higher education administration from Auburn University. As vice chancellor, I am expected to provide leadership and direction for the Division of Student Affairs, which encompasses a diverse group of departments providing services, facilities and programs to complement the academic experiences of our students. Division departments include Admissions and Registrar, Campus Programming, Campus Recreation, Career Center, Counseling Center, Dean of Students, Financial Aid, Health Services, International Programs, Luckyday Programs, Orientation and Parent Programs, Student Housing and Residence Life, Student Media and University Police. My wife, Mary Jo, recently retired from a long and successful career in elementary education. We have three sons and two beautiful grand-daughters. Leslie Banahan M.Ed.
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs As an assistant vice chancellor for student affairs, I work closely with four of the division’s departments: Orientation and Parent Programs, International Programs, Career Center and University Counseling Center. I also provide oversight for division policies, search processes and graduate assistantships; and serve as chair of the university’s Student Intervention Team (SIT). Day to day, I work with Vice Chancellor Ridgeway to provide administrative guidance and support for the division’s 13 departments. My office is located in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs’ suite on the second floor of the Lyceum, and I encourage students and staff to visit whenever they have problems or concerns regarding student affairs programs, facilities or services. I have earned two degrees from The University of Mississippi and have worked in student affairs at the University of Georgia and Ole Miss for more than 20 years. Early in my career, I served as an international student adviser and designed and implemented orientation programs for international students. Later, I developed and directed new orientation programs for freshmen, transfer students and parents, and worked closely with parents’ associations. I’ve written and spoken extensively about parents of today’s college students and continue to speak to hundreds of parents each summer at Ole Miss orientation sessions. I enjoy teaching First Year Seminar (EDLD 105) each fall and rarely miss an Ole Miss women’s basketball game. My husband, Ben, conducts pharmaceutical marketing research in the School of Pharmacy and teaches graduate research design courses. We have two children, Andy and Meg; a granddaughter, Mary Hart; and a mischievous and loveable Goldendoodle dog, Mulligan. Charlotte Fant, Ph.D.
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, I was delighted to accept an appointment as an assistant vice chancellor for student affairs in July 2007. I work with three departments that make up the enrollment management cluster: admissions, registrar and financial aid. Interestingly enough, I have the opportunity to direct both the admissions and registrar’s offices. Since 1993, I have enjoyed working with the students, faculty and staff of the university, having served in the Career Center, Office of Admissions and Office of the Registrar. Also, as an assistant professor of leadership and counselor education, I enjoy teaching graduate students—that is when time allows. I have earned several degrees from The University of Mississippi, including a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, a Master of Education in higher education and a Ph.D. in educational leadership. Enrollment management is both an exciting and challenging field in which to work; however, the rewards are indescribable. I will never forget the feeling I had from offering a prospective student the top university scholarship. It was indeed a great day. My hobbies include reading and cooking. Thomas J. Reardon, Ph.D.
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Currently the assistant vice chancellor for student affairs/dean of students, I have worked in higher education for the last 30 years. I have served as dean of students for the last seven years. I received my B.A. from Ole Miss, my M.Ed. from Delta State University and my Ph.D. from Ole Miss. I am a member of NASPA and the Association of Fraternity Advisors. In 1998, I was recognized by my peers in the American college fraternity movement with the Bob Shaeffer Award for longtime, distinguished service to the profession. I was very honored when students at Ole Miss selected me as the initial recipient of the Thomas Frist Student Service Award in 1995. I have spoken at more than 100 college campuses on issues ranging from leadership to hazing prevention to crisis management. In 2003, I appeared in the History Channel’s documentary on the history of fraternities. I am active in my local Catholic church and enjoy reading, golf, cooking and travel. Pam Barefield
