E-LEARNING ANGEL
ANGEL is a web-based course management system used by Ole Miss Online and Independent Study students. Through ANGEL, students may access the syllabus, send lessons, email the instructor, participate in discussion boards, and check grades. A username and password are assigned at registration.
BLACKBOARD
Blackboard is a web-based course management system used by University of Mississippi instructors and students as a tool to enhance instruction. Blackboard is integrated with UM's student information system, Campus Management. All students and employees have access to Blackboard via webID. Instructors may receive assistance with Blackboard by contacting the Faculty Technology Development Center (ftdc@olemiss.edu, 662-915-7918).
INDEPENDENT STUDY WEB-BASED COURSES
Independent Study open-enrollment classes offer students the opportunity to study outside the confines of a traditional classroom. Many of the paper-based Independent Study courses are now offered on the web using ANGEL. Students may register at any time and may complete the course according to their own schedules with a minimum of two months and a maximum of one year. The classes have an average of 11-20 lessons, and most have a midcourse and final paper test, which are proctored at supervised locations. An Independent Study student is not required to be enrolled at The University of Mississippi, but if the student is seeking an Ole Miss degree, the student's Academic Dean or Advisor must sign the application. To learn more about or to register for Independent Study classes, call 662-915-7313 or visit the web site at http://indstudy.olemiss.edu).
OLE MISS ONLINE SEMESTER-BASED COURSES
Ole Miss Online courses are semester-based web courses which free students from having to come to a physical location on campus. Instead, students access the course via the internet using ANGEL. Online students spend as much time in their web-based class as they would in a traditional classroom course. All activity and grades can be seen online by the student and the professor. Most classes require the student to take at least one test in a proctored environment. Students must be admitted to The University of Mississippi to register for an Ole Miss Online class. For more information about Ole Miss Online, call 662-915-7313 or visit the web site at http://online.olemiss.edu.
COMPRESSED VIDEO
The University of Mississippi offers semester-based classes to our DeSoto Center, Tupelo, and Booneville campuses over the compressed video network. Utilizing the latest compression techniques and high-speed internet connections, our compressed video classes allow instructors and students at different locations to interact as if they were in the same classroom. Classes are listed in the course schedule published prior to each registration period or can be accessed through http://www.outreach.olemiss.edu at the regional campuses' web sites. |
