Purpose
The Provost's Office has made enhancing the campus infrastructure with classroom technology a high priority. For each of the last five years, it has allocated between $100,000 and $120,000 for the Classroom Technology Project. To date, IT has equipped approximately 50 classrooms on campus with technology such as multimedia lecterns, LCD projectors, and projection screens.
The Process
Each year, the Instructional Technology Standing Committee of the Faculty Senate selects classrooms for technology enhancements. The process begins when the Provost's office issues a call to department chairs to recommend classrooms for consideration. IT then gathers data to assist the committee's decision-making, including classroom utilization reports, photos of the candidate classrooms, and bulb usage data for previous installations. The committee evaluates these requests and makes its recommendations. Once the work has been defined, IT develops and issues appropriate RFPs for the new equipment and installation services. IT supervises the work performed and then conducts training for local users once it is complete. IT provides follow-up support such as bulb replacement and trouble-shooting of equipment problems. A local contact is designated for every location.
