Brief Interview with Joshilyn Jackson

Since we’re currently in the throes of winter, describe your version of summer in several fragments:

White sand beaches on the Redneck Riviera…Cadging a ride on my friend’s sassy horse…Pimm’s Cup with cucumber garnish

Breakfast or brunch, and if you could eat anything without consequence, what would you have?

Southern Living Bacon. You take thick cut bacon, coat it in brown sugar, and broil it. It tastes like the white light of peace and hope that people talk about when they have near death experiences. It will also clog your arteries and get you to that white light a few years sooner, but it is pretty much worth it.

What are your favorite songs to drive to?

I don’t like songs. I don’t like driving. Audiobooks make the car bearable.

Tell us about the last time you remember laughing really hard?

I was wearing an ancient, stained T-shirt, fuzzy monkey bedroom slippers, and my fantasy pants, which are these voluminous,  hideous Indian print drawstring pants I wear to write. I could hear my husband rattling around in the kitchen, so I yelled down the stairs, “Honey? Are you ready for me to come down? Because, I have to warn you, I am BRINGING SEXY BACK!”

He looked up at me as I entered and said, in a faintly puzzled tone, “Are you bringing sexy back…from rehab?”

If you could wake up anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would it be?

In my bed beside my husband with our kids tucked in safe down the hall and the cats on our feet and the dog asleep at the foot not eating my shoes.
