Richard Patti

Assistant Professor of Sociology

Dr. Richard Patti is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Mississippi.

Research Interests

Dr. Richard Patti's research focuses on social determinants of health over the life course at the state, neighborhood, and individual level. This work focuses on how these determinants pattern difference in health outcomes at the intersection of race, ethnicity, nativity, citizenship, and legal status. These health outcomes include mental health, cognitive aging, and stress-related biomarkers, to name a few. Dr. Patti uses longitudinal data and a wide range of quantitative methods in his research, and has been published in Population Research and Policy Review.

Biography

Dr. Patti earned his Ph.D. in Sociology and Demography from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A in Statistics and Data Science from the Wharton School, also at the University of Pennsylvania. He previously attended SUNY Buffalo, graduating with both a B.A and M.A in sociology while also earning a B.A. in Anthropology, and a B.A in Political Science.

Prior to teaching at the University of Mississippi, Dr. Patti held adjunct positions at SUNY Niagara and Medaille College, teaching both Sociology and Econometrics. Additionally, he was the instructor for Medical Sociology and Social Statistics as a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania and served as a summer teaching fellow for the Wharton Global Youth Data Science Academy.
