Dietary supplements guru receives honorary doctorate

Ikhlas Khan has been studying herbal products and working to standardize them to improve their quality and safety for decades. His work has drawn international recognition and numerous awards, but the honorary degree he just received in his home country means the most to him.

Grads post perfect pass rate on NAPLEX

School of Pharmacy graduates' cumulative pass rate over
the last five years is the nation's fifth highest and the
Southeastern Conference's second highest.

Last year's graduating class of pharmacists was perfect—literally. All of our May 2011 Doctor of Pharmacy graduates passed the licensure exam on their first attempt. Their performance pushed our pass rate over the past five years to 98.96 percent, the nation's fifth highest.

Memphis company licenses promising poison ivy preventative

Mahmoud ElSohly

Hapten Sciences Inc. of Memphis has licensed a compound developed by ElSohly Laboratories Inc. and our pharmaceutical researchers to prevent reactions to poison ivy, oak and sumac. Hapten has dubbed the compound HPT-721 and plans to file an Investigational New Drug Application and begin clinical trials this year.

School receives major gift from estate of alumna

Madeline and Thomas Sciacca

Thanks to the generosity of the late Madeline O. Sciacca, who remembered her alma mater in her will, generations of our pharmacy students will receive scholarship support. Sciacca, who obtained her pharmacy degree in 1953, left $400,000 to the pharmacy school to create a scholarship in her memory.
