Couple pledges $50,000 for Faser Hall renovations

Alumni Wendy and John McKinney have pledged $50,000 to the Faser Capital Campaign launched earlier this year to raise funds to help renovate portions of Faser Hall. The McKinneys hope their gift will prompt other pharmacy alumni to also give to the campaign and help their alma mater meet the needs of students for years to come.

UM offers new course in pharmaceutical tablet technology

When the university's new "Hands-on Course in Tablet Technology" is offered, up to 60 nontraditional students — mostly from the pharmaceutical industry and the agency that regulates it — are expected to enroll to learn how to make and evaluate tablets used to deliver medicines or dietary supplements.

James Parrett was an attorney for eight years before he enrolled in both the School of Pharmacy's professional program and graduate pharmacy administration program. The dual enrollee is one of 10 students from across the country selected to serve on an advisory group of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Paul White of Tupelo receives his white coat Aug. 14.

A record 120 students are enrolled this fall in the first year of the university's professional pharmacy program, and 115 of them received their white coats — that universal symbol of health care professionals — this month. The new students have elevated the pharmacy school's enrollment to an all-time high.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation has chosen Meagan Brown to participate in the second class of its Faculty Scholars Program, which mentors junior faculty at pharmacy schools across the country. Another Ole Miss clinical assistant professor of pharmacy practice was selected to participate in the program last year.

Alumnus David F. Gregory has been named the School of Pharmacy's new associate dean for academic affairs. Gregory, director for education, drug policy, research and clinical pharmacy services in the Department of Pharmaceutical Services at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, will join the Ole Miss pharmacy school Sept. 16.
