Harper Grace’s Law paves way to develop epilepsy treatment

Oil for the study will come from cannabis grown at UM.

A bill signed by Gov. Phil Bryant could enable University of Mississippi researchers to develop a treatment for children with a rare form of epilepsy. Harper Grace's Law paves the way for researchers in the National Center for Natural Products Research to provide oil from cannabis to UM Medical Center physicians for a clinical trial with patients, once federal agencies authorize it.

Student one of 300 pharmacy advocates on Capitol Hill

Fourth-year professional pharmacy student Stephen Lirette was selected to attend the 2014 National Association of Chain Drug Stores RxIMPACT program in Washington, D.C. Lirette was one of 300 advocates from around the country to meet with lawmakers and other pharmacy professionals to discuss issues and legislation important to advancing the profession.

Pharmacy school competes in medication adherence challenge

Pharmacy students, faculty and residents volunteered at the Jackson Free Clinic every Saturday in February.

While participating in the 2014 Script Your Future Medication Adherence Challenge in February, pharmacy students volunteered at the Belhaven University Health Fair and Jackson Free Clinic. During the challenge, students counseled more than 150 patients. Winners of this year's challenge awards will be announced this summer.

Khan delivers prestigious invited lecture in South Africa

The Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa invited Ikhlas Khan to deliver its 2014 Vice-Chancellor's Seminar, which brings leading international scholars to its campus for intellectual engagement. Khan, assistant director of the National Center for Natural Products Research, discussed traditional medicine and botanicals.

School honors Syed Abidi with Distinguished Alumnus award

The School of Pharmacy honored Syed Abidi (PhD 80) April 5 for his outstanding career and service to the school. Abidi is CEO of Pharmaceutics International Inc., which he created in 1994. Today, the company is one of the world's leaders in pharmaceutical development. Abidi has been active in the university's pharmaceutical education programs throughout his career.
