Cherished friendship leads to memorial pharmacy scholarship

The bonds created in pharmacy school can last a lifetime. Ben Taylor Smith (BSPh 59) and Robert Buchanan (BSPh 59) epitomize these bonds through their remarkable friendship. To honor his former college roommate and classmate, Buchanan has initiated the Ben Taylor Smith Memorial Pharmacy Scholarship Endowment with the support of Smith’s widow.

Pharmacy school students to partner with SockKids

Created by Michael John Sullivan, The SockKids characters teach children about universal messages of good behavior and healthy choices.

A new partnership with The SockKids will allow University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy students to convey drug safety messages in a fun and creative way. The SockKids is an animated video and book series featuring a mismatched family of socks that teaches children across the nation about good behavior and healthy choices.

School of Pharmacy classes honored five outstanding teachers and preceptors for their hard work during this year’s awards day ceremony. John Rimoldi, Tracy Brooks and Laurie Fleming were named Teachers of the Year, and Jay Pitcock and Danny Riche were honored with Preceptor of the Year awards.

Twin sisters receive Doctor of Pharmacy degrees

Having an older sister who’s a pharmacist helped seal the career choice for twins Brittany and Whitney Gross of Carthage. The 2015 School of Pharmacy grads continue their family’s health-care tradition — their dad is a dentist — but their pharmacy residencies will bring a major change. For the first time, Brittany and Whitney won’t be living together.

Steadfast retiree continues to have impact on school

They say if you love something you should let it go, but that’s not necessarily the case for Robert Bishop and his work at the School of Pharmacy. Bishop has worked for the school for nearly 50 years, even returning part time after retirement. His service has spanned five different deans and has greatly influenced those around him.
