Overview of Services

The University Libraries, which include the Williams and Science libraries are organizationally separate from the Grisham Law Library and the University of Mississippi Medical Center Library in Jackson. The intent of this guide is to provide a brief overview to help determine the services available to you. Please keep in mind that policies are subject to change.

To determine what services you are eligible to use, please choose the user type listed below that best describes you.

Current Undergraduate Student

A current UM undergraduate student is defined as an undergraduate student who is registered for any current or upcoming classes as recorded by the student information system (SAP). As a current undergraduate student, you are eligible to use all of the services provided by the University Libraries which includes the Williams and Science Libraries. You have access to electronic resources such as electronic journals, databases and e-books both within the library as well as from anywhere in the world. We also encourage you to use the library reference services if you need any help with research or library resources. Help is available in person, over the phone (662 915-5855) as well as via chat or e-mail. If there are materials you need for your class work beyond what we have in the library collection, feel free to request these materials through Interlibrary Loan. To checkout materials including books, course reserves and movies; just use your university ID. The library is a great place to study and do research. The facilities are open for everyone to use. There are over 100 computers throughout the building for users. Wireless access and wireless printing are available.

The UM Grisham Law Library is administratively separate from the Williams and Science libraries but still provides services to undergraduate students. As a UM undergraduate student, you are welcome to use the Grisham Law Library, their computers and materials on-site. While legal assistance is not available, reference questions are welcome. The University of Mississippi Medical Center Library in Jackson also offers the same on-site use of their materials.

Current Graduate Student

A current UM graduate student is defined as a graduate student who is registered for any current or upcoming classes as recorded by the student information system (SAP). As a current graduate student, you are eligible to use all of the services provided by the University Libraries, which include the Williams and Science Libraries. You have access to electronic resources such as electronic journals, databases and books both within the library as well as from anywhere in the world. We also encourage you to use the library reference services if you need any help with research or library resources. Help is available in person, over the phone (662 915-5855) as well as via chat or e-mail. If there are materials you need for your class work or research beyond what we have in the library collection, feel free to request these materials through Interlibrary Loan. Document delivery is also available to graduate students through Interlibrary Loan. To checkout materials including books, course reserves, bound journals and movies; just use your university ID. A current UM employee is defined as a currently paid employee that is recorded in the University's Human Resources Management System (SAP). As a current employee, you are eligible to use all of the services provided by the University Libraries, which includes the Williams and Science Libraries. You have access to electronic resources such as electronic journals, databases and e-books both within the library as well as from anywhere in the world. We also encourage you to use the library reference services if you need any assistance with research or library resources. Help is available in person, over the phone (662 915-5855) as well as via chat or e-mail. If there are materials you need for your work or research beyond what we have in the library collection, feel free to request these materials through Interlibrary Loan. Document delivery is also available to employees through Interlibrary Loan. To checkout materials including books, course reserves, bound journals and movies; just use your university ID. Legal agreements prohibit UMMC's library from extending electronic resource access to UM employees. Emeritus Faculty

A UM Emeritus faculty member is defined as an emeritus faculty member that is recorded in the University's Human Resources Management System (SAP). As an emeritus faculty member, you are eligible to use all of the services provided by the University Libraries which includes the Williams and Science Libraries. You have access to electronic resources such as electronic journals, databases and e-books both within the library as well as from anywhere in the world. We also encourage you to use the library reference services if you need any assistance with research or library resources. Help is available in person, over the phone (662 915-5855) as well as via chat or e-mail. If there are materials you need beyond what is available in the library collection, feel free to request these materials through Interlibrary Loan. Document delivery is also available to emeritus faculty through Interlibrary Loan. To checkout materials including books, course reserves, bound journals and movies; just use your university ID. Current Law School Student or Employee

Current Law School students and employees have the same privileges as UM students and employees including access to electronic resources licensed for the Williams library. The Grisham Law Library provides Interlibrary Loan service and reference assistance. Recent law school graduates are not considered current students however and do not have access to electronic resources licensed for the Williams library. Adjunct Faculty or Visiting Professor

If you are an employee who is currently being paid by the University of Mississippi, please see the current employee section above. Adjunct and visiting faculty who are not paid by the University of Mississippi are eligible to use library materials and electronic resources from within the libraries. We also encourage you to use the library reference services if you need any assistance with research or library resources. Help is available in person, over the phone (662 915-5855) as well as via chat or e-mail.

The UM Grisham Law Library is administratively separate from the Williams and Science libraries but still provides services to adjunct faculty and visiting professors. You are welcome to use the Grisham Law Library materials, public computers and electronic resources within the library. While legal assistance is not available, reference questions are welcome. The University of Mississippi Medical Center Library in Jackson also offers use of their materials from within the library. UMMC Nursing Student

UMMC Nursing students who are registered for a class at the University of Mississippi receive the same access as current UM undergraduate students. For those only taking UMMC classes, you are eligible to use library materials, public computers and electronic resources on-site only. We also encourage you to use the library reference services if you need any assistance with research or library resources. Help is available in person, over the phone (662 915-5855) as well as via chat or e-mail.

Mississippi Resident

Mississippi residents with a valid driver's license are eligible to check out circulating library materials. (See the circulation policy for specific details.) You are also eligible to use non-circulating materials, public computers and electronic resources on-site. We also encourage you to use the library reference services if you need any assistance with research or library resources. Help is available in person, over the phone (662 915-5855) as well as via chat or e-mail.

Your local public or school library may also provide Interlibrary loan services and access to state-funded databases. The Grisham Law Library on the Oxford Campus and the Rowland Medical Library in Jackson also offer on-site use of their library materials and resources.

Community Users or UM Alumni (who do not meet one of the descriptions above)

The University of Mississippi Libraries offer community patrons use of library materials, public computers and electronic resources on-site. We also encourage you to use the library reference services if you need any assistance with research or library resources. Help is available in person, over the phone (662 915-5855) as well as via chat or e-mail.

Your local public or school library may also provide Interlibrary loan services and access to state-funded databases. The Grisham Law Library on the Oxford Campus and the Rowland Medical Library in Jackson also offer on-site use of their library materials and resources.
