2017-2018 Ole Miss Low Brass Events

As per the syllabus, music major low brass students will be graded based upon their attendance at all of these events, except where otherwise noted. For events other than Instrumental Area Meetings, please bring a program to your first lesson following each event. Instrumental Area Meetings, normally scheduled on alternate Mondays throughout the fall and spring semesters, are required of all low brass majors, including those who have completed the MUS 100 requirement, in addition to the events listed here. Students that have completed MUS 100 requirements and no longer have the 1pm Monday time available will have their expectations adjusted accordingly. Wednesday 1pm student recitals are graded as part of the MUS 100 course.

Saturday, September 16: Dr. Everett at Northwest College Brass Festival (Wyoming)
Dr. Everett will be leading several masterclasses and performing on an evening recital.
Not required for UM students.

Sunday, October 8: Dr. Everett and Prof. Rodgers at National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors National Conference, University of Montevallo (AL)
Dr. Everett and Prof. Rodgers will be performing the trombone and tuba sonatas by Paul Hindemith (1895-1963).
Not required for UM students.

Sunday, November 12, 3:00pm: Junior Tuba-Euphonium Recital: Garrett Gill, Larry Reaux, and Cody Spurlock
Lots of great solo and duo works with piano on this program.

Tuesday, November 28, 7:30pm: UM Low Brass Ensembles
Fall concert with the trombone ensemble and tuba-euphonium ensemble.

Thursday, January 25, 7:30pm: "A Hindemith-ey Sort of Evening"
Faculty Recital Series program with Dr. Everett, Mr. Rodgers, and Dr. Rowlett presenting a number of works by Paul Hindemith (1895-1963) and his students.

Tuesday, January 30, 8:00pm: Ole Miss vs. Auburn Men's Basketball Game
The UM Trombone Ensemble will be performing the national anthem prior to the game.

Friday, February 2, 1:00pm: Master Class with US Army Specialist David Jackson
Spc. Jackson will be talking to us about careers in the Army music program, doubling, and other topics.

Tuesday, February 13, 6:00pm: Ole Miss vs. Arkansas Men's Basketball Game
The UM Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble will be performing the national anthem prior to the game.

Thursday, March 22, 7:30pm: Patrick Crossland, Guest Artist Trombone Recital
Dr. Crossland is trombone professor at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and will be performing a recital
of avant-garde works for trombone, both unaccompanied and with electronics.

Wednesday, April 4, 1:00pm: Master Class with Euphoniumist Martin Cochran
Dr. Cochran will be giving a euphonium/low brass master class.

Saturday, April 14, 3:00pm: Kurt Hickey and Quayshun Shumpert Trombone Recital
Works by Goldstein, Ĺ ulek, Nestico, Stojowski, Frackenpohl, and White.

Saturday, April 21, 3:00pm: Austin Jones and Gabe Mosley Tenor/Bass Trombone Recital
Works by Arnold, Ferro, Larsson, Spillman, Langford, and Gulino.

Monday, April 23, 7:30pm: Mississippi Brass Quintet
Faculty Recital Series performance by the UM faculty brass quintet.

Monday, April 30, 7:30pm: UM Low Brass Ensembles
Spring concert with the trombone ensemble and tuba-euphonium ensemble.
