Technology Enhancement Week - September 8-12, 2014
The Faculty Technology Development Center will host its annual Technology Enhancement Week, September8-12, 2014. Workshops offered this week will include Photoshop, UM Box, PowerPoint, Adobe Connect, Lecture Recording, All About the iPad, various Blackboard topics, and much more. These events are open to all faculty, staff, and graduate instructors on a first come, first served basis. Spring 2013:

Clicker Training - 9-10:30am and 2:30-4pm, January 17, 2013
This is a session for those who want to start using the Turning Technologies Clickers in the classroom or those who want a refresher course on the basics of the TurningPoint software. It is hands-on; you will walk away with the ability to use the software and clickers correctly and confidently in class. Topics will include:
*Pedagogy – What are Clickers and what can they do for me.
*Polling – Creating and running clicker presentation.
*Installation – Where to get the software/system.
*Integration – How to upload data into Blackboard.

IT Training Opportunities
In an effort to provide technology training opportunities to the campus community, the Office of Information Technology provides workshops on many important technology topics, including: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, Blackboard, Faculty Activity Reports, and more. These computer workshops are offered quarterly. The workshop schedule is available at http://ittraining.olemiss.edu.

Spring 2012:

Accessibility: Reaching All Learners - 1:00 PM, April 12, 2012, Union Room 404
The FTDC in conjunction with Apple, Inc. will offer a tour of software and hardware accessibility features designed to accommodate students with disabilities. This session, delivered by Chris Dunbar, senior systems engineer with Apple Education, is entitled "Accessibility: Reaching all Learners" and will include:

  • A tour of software and hardware accessibility features designed to accommodate students with disabilities
  • A short history of Apple and Accessibility features
  • An overview of Mac features for differing abilities
  • VoiceOver (the spoken interface built in to every Mac and most Apple devices)
  • Braille support iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch-Same device for any type of student
  • Closed Caption topics
  • Video chat for sign language (iChat and FaceTime)
  • Content and apps for special education resources and profiles
  • Demonstration of accessibility features, including new features of iOS 5 and Mac OSX Lion Q&A

The Target Audience is those that are responsible for ADA compliance as well as any educators that are interested in learning how to reach all learners.

Beyond Textbooks: Creating Textbooks, Distributing Via iTunes U, and Accessing in iBooks - 10:30 AM, February 28, 2012, Union Room 404
Apple announced iBook Author, an iTunes U app, and iBooks 2 on January 19th. This workshop will provide a demonstration to explore usage of these new tools. See http://www.apple.com/education/ for an overview. Workshop is 1.5 hours in length. Presented by Andre Vlajk, Apple Inc.

Tips and Tricks on iPad - 1:00 PM, February 28, 2012, Union Room 404
This workshop will demonstrate some of the new features in iOS5 with a focus on the educational relevance. It is designed to show ways to more efficiently use your iPad. The seminar is designed to be sharing and interactive so bring a tip/workflow/app to share. The target audience is educational iPad users. Workshop is 1.5 hours in length. Presented by Chris Dunbar, Apple Inc.
